Overview
TaskGauge consists of an iOS app, widgets, a Companion running on your Mac, and a cloud relay that handles end-to-end encrypted snapshots. It has no cloud user-account system, advertising, or analytics SDK.
Data processed on your Mac
After you enable a connector, the Companion locally processes the account label you provide; Codex or Claude usage percentages and reset times; allowed task names, states, and update times; the Mac name and pairing state; and the local pairing key.
Provider login credentials, API keys, chat text, prompts, replies, attachments, tool arguments, file paths, code diffs, and full transcripts do not enter the sync model and are not received by the iOS app.
Storage and transmission
Readable normalized snapshots remain on your iPhone and Mac. The Companion encrypts quota and task payloads with ChaChaPoly before sending them through the Cloudflare relay. The relay can see the channel identifier; source identifier and display name; pairing-key identifier; sequence number; snapshot generation time; encrypted payload; and necessary request metadata. It does not receive the pairing key or plaintext quota and task data.
Pairing keys are stored in the system Keychain as ThisDeviceOnly items and are not uploaded. If silent APNs refresh is enabled, the relay may temporarily store an iPhone device token and environment flag to deliver a content-free background notification.
Claude Cowork observation
The Companion locally reads lifecycle events and metadata written by Claude Desktop. It extracts an irreversible session identifier hash, an allowed display title, task state, and update time. It does not sync raw audit records, initial prompts, replies, tool inputs, output files, attachments, or credentials. The observer does not require macOS Accessibility permission.
System permissions
- Camera: used only to scan the short-lived pairing QR code generated by your Mac.
- Local network: used only to discover and connect to a Mac you pair.
- Remote notifications: if configured, content-free silent notifications may trigger an encrypted snapshot refresh.
Purchases and feature access
TaskGauge Pro is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase processed by Apple. TaskGauge does not receive or store payment-card numbers or billing addresses. The app reads Apple-verified purchase entitlements and stores only the local and App Group entitlement state needed to unlock Pro features. The app contacts Apple's purchase synchronization service only when you explicitly choose Restore Purchases.
Control and deletion
Forgetting a Mac in the iOS app removes that Mac’s registration, pairing key, and offline snapshot from the iPhone. On macOS, local Companion data is stored in ~/Library/Application Support/AIControlCenterCompanion and can be removed after stopping observers and quitting the app. This does not delete or sign out of Codex or Claude accounts.
