Install the Mac Companion
- Download Companion 1.7.0 (19) on your Mac.
- Unzip the download and move TaskGauge Companion to the Applications folder.
- Open the Companion, enable the local observers you need, and generate a pairing code.
- On iPhone, open TaskGauge, tap the QR button, then compare the six-digit verification code.
The public package is signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. You do not need to bypass macOS security protections to open it.
Upgrade from an earlier Companion
Quit the older Companion, replace it in Applications with Build 19, and open it once. Upgrade the iPhone app to Build 19 or later: current builds deliberately reject legacy snapshots that could contain message text. The bundle ID, local data directory, pairing identity, and connector settings stay the same, so a valid existing pairing does not need to be recreated.
Free and Lifetime Pro
Free includes one paired Mac, one account, live in-app quota and task monitoring, and the basic quota widget. Lifetime Pro is a one-time $9.99 purchase that unlocks unlimited Macs and accounts, all task and combined widget sizes, and Live Activities. There is no subscription.
If you bought TaskGauge before the Freemium update, Pro is granted automatically. If access is missing after reinstalling or changing devices, open the Pro screen and choose Restore Purchases while signed in to the Apple Account used for the purchase.
Add another Mac
Install the Companion on every Mac you want to monitor. Each Mac receives its own pairing key, and accounts from different Macs remain separate on the dashboard.
What can TaskGauge observe?
After you enable a supported local observer, TaskGauge can show normalized Codex and Claude quota windows, allowed task names, lifecycle states, timestamps, source Macs, and sync health. It does not import general ChatGPT or claude.ai conversation history.
If data stops refreshing
- Confirm the Companion is running on the source Mac.
- Open “Manage Macs” in the iPhone app and check the connection status.
- Use pull-to-refresh in the app or the refresh control in the widget.
- If the local pairing key was removed, forget that Mac and pair it again.
Home Screen widgets update on an iOS-controlled schedule. Open TaskGauge or use the available refresh control when you need the newest encrypted snapshot immediately.
Privacy and permissions
Provider credentials never leave the Mac. The iPhone receives normalized quota and task snapshots only, and cannot execute tasks or approve permissions. The Claude Cowork observer does not require macOS Accessibility permission.
